Brisbane Water Marine Watch (BWMW) is an independent non profit incorporated association  The primary aim of BWMW is to deter theft and vandalism to all boats - but especially those of members. Supporting aims are to have all criminal incidents involving boats reported to local Police, to foster safe boating and to foster camaraderie among water users. The BWMW has no policing role.  The motto of BWMW is 'OBSERVING, REPORTING, HELPING'
Core business is conducted within each sector according to prevailing circumstances.
All members should make contact with their sector coordinators at least once per month.   Members are expected to help in performing tasks at sector level from time to time - realising that simple BWMW membership will contribute nothing towards better boat security. The level of local security will be directly related to member activity within the sector.
Membership is open to anyone willing to accept the Charter and pay the required fees. There is a one time joining fee of $10 per boat allowing two persons to attend meetings and vote. An annual subscription is also be charged - currently $5.  Honorary membership can also be offered to people who have been particularly helpful to the BWMW.
On behalf of members, affairs of the BWMW are managed by a Zone Committee which consists of a five or six member Executive and all the Sector Coordinators.   Attached to this Zone Committee is a small advisory group consisting of representatives from the NSW Police, NSW Maritime and the  Gosford Coastal Patrol.   Problem resolution will initially be attempted at sector level - when this is not possible, the relevant Sector Coordinator will raise the matter at the next Zone Committee meeting.
The BWMW operates with discrete sector networks of owners and shore observers who pay particular attention to signs of trouble around boats.  In suspicious circumstances prompt reporting is taken to alert the proper authorities.  Observation, reporting and possibly shadowing are appropriate actions. Direct intervention, particularly solo action, is
not recommended.   Members should not deal directly with observers on BWMW matters - such business should be handled through the local Sector Coordinator.
Zone Meetings for all members are held on the second Wednesdays of March, June, September and December at 7.30pm  - usually at the Coastal Patrol base at Point Clare.  Further meeting details can be found on the Committee page.
